Funding

Did you know your courses can be funded?

  • You have been working in France for several years: you have accumulated CPF rights (Compte Personnel de Formation — Personal Training Account) that you can use right now to fund your courses.
  • Your employer wants to develop your language skills: you may be eligible for OPCO funding.

Through my Qualiopi-certified partners, these schemes are accessible and the process is straightforward.

The CPF (Personal Training Account)

Every employee accumulates training rights throughout their career, which can be checked at moncompteformation.gouv.fr. These rights can fund a large part of your courses — you will generally only need to pay a small personal contribution.

OPCO Funding

OPCOs (Skills Operators) are organisations that fund professional training in France. If your employer wishes to develop your language skills, they can apply for funding through their OPCO. My partners will support you through the entire administrative process, from the initial application to the closing of the file.

🎯⚙️
The action-oriented approach

Every session is built around concrete tasks. You don't learn French for the sake of French: you learn to do something: convince, write, express yourself, succeed in an interview. The exercises mirror real situations, not textbook scenarios.

🩺🔎
Needs analysis

Before we begin, we identify your level, your goals and your context together. The content of each lesson is built on this analysis, not on a standard programme.

🎬📃🎵🗞️🌍📖📺
Materials from real life

Videos, press articles, songs, professional documents: the materials used are authentic. You work on real French, not only on textbook exercises.

🔄💬
Interactive dynamic

Each session alternates between focused input and immediate practice. We discuss, correct, and redo. Making mistakes is part of the process.

📅📈
Support between sessions

Between sessions, you can ask questions. Points covered in class are consolidated in subsequent sessions.

🙏
A supportive environment

The lesson is a judgement-free space. You can make mistakes, hesitate, start again. That is the condition for progress.

Benoît Cassagnau
Benoît Cassagnau
French Teacher
Who am I?

A trainer for over twenty years, I have worked with a wide variety of students, from 10 to 80 years old, all levels, from A1 to C2. Holder of the DAEFLE (Diploma of Aptitude in Teaching French as a Foreign Language) from the Alliance Française de Paris, I combine field experience with academic training.

📋🛠️🧩
What I offer

The common thread running through all my courses is the French language, not as an end in itself, but as an instrument in service of your ambitions. Whether you want to secure a position in a French-speaking company, pass your DELF, speak confidently in public, support your children through school, or simply feel at ease in conversation: in every case, we start from what you need to accomplish, and we build the language skills that will allow you to do it. Language is not an obstacle to overcome, it is a tool to master.

🧭🔭🌱
My philosophy

You are the priority. Each lesson is built around your goals, your level and the way you learn. Some people are auditory learners, others visual: I adapt my method to each person. We work better when we enjoy what we're doing, but rigour is still necessary — I look for the balance between the two. Lessons should be enjoyable, but demanding. You should look forward to them, and feel that you are making progress.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Why I am a good teacher

Experience has taught me to move quickly with those who pick things up easily, and to show great patience with those who need more time. I don't just teach: I also give my students the tools to keep progressing on their own between lessons.

I continuously keep up with the latest pedagogical developments, digital tools, and discoveries in neuropsychology applied to learning.

Read each scenario. Choose the level that best describes what you are currently able to do in spoken French. If a scenario seems too easy, move on to the next. Stop at the first one that challenges you.

🎬

B1
Threshold Independence in everyday situations

« Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on familiar topics. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions. »

A colleague asks what you thought of a film you recently saw. You recount the story, express your opinion, give reasons and answer questions about details. You can express enthusiasm or disappointment.

Speech acts: recount · express an opinion · justify · express a feeling · answer questions

Speech acts: express an opinion · argue · agree · disagree · justify
B2
Advanced Fluency and argumentation

« Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects. »

Scenario 1

During a professional presentation, you defend a project in front of a sceptical management team. You develop your argument point by point, anticipate objections, make concessions on secondary points while holding firm on the essentials.

Speech acts: argue · justify · contrast · concede · insist · give advantages and disadvantages

C1
Experienced Fluent and nuanced expression

« Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. »

Speech acts: open a discussion · invite contributions · interrupt · ask for patience · summarise · adapt register · conclude
Scenario 2

You are asked to comment on a controversial strategic decision in your field. You develop a structured analysis: introduce the topic, lay out the stakes, present different viewpoints, nuance your own position and reach an argued conclusion — without needing any prompt.

Speech acts: set out · analyse · demonstrate · nuance · rank · give secondary arguments · conclude appropriately
Scenario 3

In an informal conversation among French-speaking colleagues, you join in humorous exchanges with ease, understand allusions and cultural references, pay and receive compliments appropriately, and switch effortlessly between formal and informal registers.

Speech acts: use different registers · understand implicit meaning · give and receive compliments · adapt discourse · humour and irony
Scenario 4

In a 10-minute impromptu talk, you present a complex topic from your field to a non-specialist audience. You integrate secondary arguments, develop key points with relevant examples, convey fine shades of meaning through intonation and reach an appropriate conclusion.

Speech acts: present · integrate secondary arguments · give examples · develop · conclude · convey nuance through intonation
C2
Mastery Near-native speaker

« Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can summarise information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. »

Scenario 1

During a very lively formal discussion, you defend a position against native speakers who raise multiple objections. You answer each argument precisely, use idiomatic expressions naturally, express fine nuances of meaning, and if you reach a dead end, you backtrack and rephrase deftly without it being noticeable.

Speech acts: defend a position · answer objections · express nuance · rephrase skilfully · idiomatic expressions · native register
Scenario 2

You are asked to summarise and critique a complex professional book in front of a panel of experts. You comment on the main themes, point out opposing views, offer your own critical assessment, and your speech is limpid, fluent and stylistically appropriate — with no apparent effort.

Speech acts: summarise · critique · comment on opposing views · evaluate · appropriate style · native fluency · style nuances
Methodological note

These scenarios are built on the Alliance Française de Paris Programme Framework, developed on the basis of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Each scenario uses only the speech acts defined for the relevant level, without drawing on competences from higher levels. If in doubt, choose the lower level: it is better to build on a solid foundation. During the first lesson, we will assess your exact level together and define your goals.

Filter by level:
🎙️ Institutional media
RFI Savoirs — Apprendre le français
A1 → C2 Website · Audio · Exercises
Visit →

The institutional reference for learning French through world news. Offers exercises based on radio programmes, lexical features ("Les mots de l'actualité"), and bilingual fiction series. The Journal en français facile — 10 minutes a day on international news, ideal from B1 — is one of the most recommended resources by FLE teachers.

My view

Essential. The editorial quality is impeccable and the content is rooted in real francophone life, not textbook French. I recommend the Journal en français facile from B1 as a daily listening exercise — 10 minutes a day makes a real difference over 3 months.

TV5 Monde — Apprendre le français
A1 → C2 Website · Video · Interactive exercises
Visit →

A pedagogical platform built around authentic videos (reports, documentaries, fiction) with learner sheets, self-correcting interactive exercises and transcripts. Covers all levels A1–C2 and all topics. Suitable for self-study.

My view

An excellent resource for working on listening comprehension through authentic video material. The teaching notes are well structured. I use it regularly as a basis for comprehension sessions — the cultural themes are varied and spark real discussions.

Arte — Documentaires & culture
B2 → C1 Video · Documentaries
Visit →

Franco-German cultural channel. Documentaries, reports, short films and magazines on culture, society, history and science. Subtitles available. Authentic, lexically dense content — recommended for advanced levels.

My view

For B2 and C1 learners who want to immerse themselves in demanding cultural French. Arte documentaries are an excellent source of thematic vocabulary (history, science, geopolitics). I advise using subtitles at first, then gradually doing without.

HugoDécrypte — Actus du jour
B2 → C1 YouTube · News
Visit →

Hugo Travers summarises French and international news in short formats (10–15 min), using clear, accessible journalistic language. Two formats: Actus du jour (daily, 10 min) and longer formats on in-depth topics. Ideal for understanding contemporary media French.

My view

HugoDécrypte is the best there is for making French news accessible. The register is formal without being academic — exactly the French a B2 learner should be aiming for. I recommend it to all my advanced students as a morning read: 10 minutes a day to stay in the language and in the news.

🎧 Podcasts & YouTube — FLE
innerFrench — Hugo Cotton
B1 → B2 Podcast · YouTube
Visit →

A YouTube channel created by a French teacher, entirely in French, on French language and culture. Covers grammar, vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, and cultural topics, in a clear and well-paced format. The series of videos on "French you won't learn at school" is particularly valued.

My view

One of the most useful channels for intermediate and advanced learners. The explanations are clear, culturally grounded and delivered in authentic French. I particularly recommend it to B1–B2 learners who want to understand how French is actually spoken — not just how it is written in textbooks.

Français avec Pierre
A1 → C2 YouTube · Podcast · Online courses
Visit →

Pierre, a native teacher, offers short, clear lessons on grammar, conjugation, pronunciation and French culture. A well-stocked YouTube channel covering all levels. Also offers a paid academy with group classes and teachers.

My view

Pierre has a clear, well-structured teaching style — his grammar explanations are some of the most accessible I know of for non-native speakers. The free YouTube channel is already very comprehensive. Useful alongside personalised tutoring to consolidate specific grammar points.

Français Authentique — Johan Tekfak
B1 → B2 Podcast · YouTube
Visit →

Johan Tekfak speaks natural French, without slowing down, on topics of personal development and language. The philosophy: total immersion without translation. Encourages massive exposure to authentic language rather than formal grammar study.

My view

A radically immersive approach that works well for motivated B1 learners. The pace is faster than innerFrench — a good next step up. I'd qualify the opposition Johan draws between grammar and immersion: the two are complementary. But as a listening resource, it's excellent.

Français avec Fluidité — Fabien
B1 → C1 YouTube · Podcast · Vlogs
Visit →

Fabien offers vlogs, authentic dialogues and podcasts in native French. The core idea: the more you're exposed to real language, the better you speak it. Varied content — anecdotes, travel, culture — in a natural conversational register.

My view

Great for training the ear to authentic conversational French — the kind you actually hear on the street, not the kind found in books. Particularly useful for B2 learners wanting to refine their listening comprehension in informal situations.

Duolingo French Podcast
B1 → B2 Podcast
Visit →

True stories told in simplified French, interspersed with English explanations from the host. An engaging narrative format, ideal for English speakers starting out at B1. The French/English mix helps the transition towards listening entirely in French.

My view

A useful bridge for English speakers moving from A2 to B1. The narrative format makes listening enjoyable and the level is well calibrated. I'd suggest using it as a starting point, then moving quickly on to innerFrench or RFI for a fully immersive French experience.

📚 Exercises & grammar
Le Point du FLE
A1 → C2 Website · Exercises · Worksheets
Visit →

An encyclopaedic directory of FLE resources classified by speech acts, levels and skills. No original content but a remarkable index of hundreds of annotated external resources. A reference for teachers and autonomous learners.

My view

A reference library, indispensable for teachers. For an autonomous learner, the site may be a little austere to navigate, but the breadth of indexed resources is unmatched. I use it to find exercises targeting specific grammatical points.

Bonjour de France
A1 → B2 Website · Exercises · Tests
Visit →

A pedagogical cyber-magazine offering grammar, vocabulary and comprehension exercises, level tests, and cultural fact sheets. Simple interface, clear navigation. Well suited to beginner learners who want to practise independently.

My view

A good practice site for A1 to B1 levels — clear, no compulsory registration, with immediately usable exercises. I suggest it to my beginner students who want to practise between lessons without getting lost in resources that are too complex.

🎓 Official exams

Three official certifications coexist. The choice depends on your goal: obtaining a permanent diploma, justifying your level for an administrative process, or preparing for university entry. I can support you in preparing for any of these exams.

DELF & DALF — Diplôme officiel à vie
A1 → B2 (DELF) · C1 → C2 (DALF) Permanent diploma
Visit →

French state diploma issued by the Ministry of National Education. Valid for life, recognised in over 180 countries. Assesses 4 skills: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking, writing. Sessions in June and December (sometimes March). DELF covers levels A1 to B2, DALF covers C1 and C2. Each level is taken separately.

Who it is for

Anyone seeking a permanent certification. Ideal for studies, professional life in a French-speaking country, or as a motivating long-term goal.

Preparation

I recommend 2 to 3 months of targeted preparation depending on the level. We work on all 4 skills and the specific formats of the exams.

Note

The DELF is the exam I recommend first to my students. The lifetime validity is a real advantage — you take the diploma once, it stays. The format is demanding but fair: it assesses what you can actually do with the language, not just grammatical knowledge. The DELF B2 is particularly valuable for an international career.

TCF — Test de Connaissance du Français
A1 → C2 (single test) Certificate valid for 2 years
Visit →

A standardised test that assesses your level on a continuous scale from A1 to C2 in a single sitting. Valid for 2 years. Five versions exist depending on your goal:

TCF TPGeneral Public. General level certification (A1 → C2), for academic, professional or personal reasons.
TCF IRNIntegration, Residence, Nationality. Required for French naturalisation (B2 since 2025), the resident card (B1) or the multi-year residence permit (A2).
TCF DAPPrior Admission Request. To enrol at university, in a BTS programme, a Master's degree...
TCF CanadaFor economic immigration to Canada (IRCC application). 4 mandatory tests.
TCF QuébecFor permanent immigration to Quebec (MIFI application). A version adapted to Quebec's requirements.
Who it is for

People going through immigration, naturalisation, or university admission processes in France. Ideal when you need a certification quickly, with a precise date.

Preparation

Preparation focuses mainly on speed and time management, mastering sentence structures, and comprehension strategies. 4 to 8 weeks are usually enough if your foundations are solid.

Note

The TCF is the exam of pragmatism: no permanent diploma, but a quick answer to a precise administrative need. I recommend it when urgency demands it — immigration, visa, university application. Its 2-year validity is a drawback in the long run, but an advantage in the short run: it reflects your current level, not the one you had 5 years ago.

TEF — Test d'Évaluation de Français
A1 → C2 (single test) Certificate valid for 2 years
Visit →

French language test recognised in Canada, France and internationally. Primarily used for immigration, university admission and professional purposes. Valid for 2 years.

Who it is for

Similar profiles to the TCF. TEF Canada is specifically required for certain Canadian immigration procedures (IRCC). Check the requirements for your destination country.

Preparation

Preparation is very similar to the TCF. The adaptive format requires good stress and pacing management: don't get stuck on difficult questions, keep moving forward.

Note

The TCF and TEF are very similar — the choice often depends on which body is requesting it rather than on a teaching preference. TEF Canada is essential for certain Canadian immigration applications. If you're torn between the two, first check which one is accepted for your specific process — and I can help you prepare for either.

fide — Passeport des langues (Suisse)
A1 → B1 Official certificate · Switzerland
Visit →

Official language test from the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM). Issues a Language Passport recognised for naturalisation procedures, renewal of residence permits (B and C) and other administrative matters in Switzerland. Assesses oral ("Speaking and understanding") and written ("Reading and writing") communication in concrete everyday Swiss situations. Levels A1 to B1. Can be taken in French, German or Italian.

Who it is for

Non-Swiss residents wishing to renew their residence permit or start a naturalisation procedure. Mandatory in many cantons since 2019 for new applications.

Preparation

Exam situations are grounded in everyday Swiss life (administration, work, doctor, local council). I work with you on these specific contexts, institutional vocabulary, and the phrasing expected in the oral part.

Note

The fide is a practical, down-to-earth exam — it assesses what you can actually do with the language in concrete situations, not abstract conjugations. That's good news for students who have developed functional French. Preparation is short if your foundations are solid: 3 to 6 weeks is often enough to get familiar with the situations and format.

ÉLS-CFP — Évaluation de Langue Seconde (Canada)
Levels A · B · C Federal public service · Canada
Visit →

Test administered by the Public Service Commission of Canada (PSC), mandatory for positions designated bilingual in the Canadian federal public service. Assesses French as a second language across three skills: reading comprehension, written expression, and oral expression (20-to-40-minute video-conference interview). Each skill is rated from A (basic) to E (exemption), with C commonly required for supervisory positions. The most requested profiles are BBB and CBC.

Who it is for

Canadian federal public servants or candidates for a bilingual position in the public service. Also relevant for candidates to the Canadian Armed Forces or federal agencies (e.g. CRA).

Preparation

The ÉLS oral is a progressive professional interview — the questions become increasingly complex. I work with you on fluency, grammatical accuracy, and strategies for maintaining your level under pressure. The reading comprehension section requires quick reading of professional documents.

Note

The ÉLS is a demanding exam because it assesses French in a real professional context — not textbook French. The oral section in particular requires a fluency that only regular conversation practice can build. I know this format well and can design interview simulations close to real conditions. For a solid B2 profile, reaching level C in the oral section is entirely achievable with 2 to 3 months of targeted work.

Certificat linguistique Selor — Fonction publique belge
B1 → C1 Official certificate · Belgium
Visit →

Certification issued by Travaillerpour.be (formerly Selor), the official recruitment body for the Belgian federal civil service. Mandatory for staff whose recruitment diploma was not obtained in French, and for any position requiring proficiency in a national language. Assesses four skills (reading, listening, speaking, writing) over three stages. Levels are aligned with the CEFR: B1, B2 and C1 depending on the seniority of the position. This certificate is also required for certain positions in regional services (Wallonia, Brussels) and Belgian local government.

Who it is for

Any candidate for a position in the Belgian federal, regional or local civil service where the administrative language is French. Also needed to qualify for the bilingualism bonus in Brussels administrations.

Preparation

The test covers real professional situations — administrative documents, interactions with the public, drafting official letters. I work with you on the formal register, understanding institutional documents, and oral production in a professional context.

Note

The Selor certificate is little known outside Belgium, but it's essential for anyone wanting to work in Belgian administration. The good news: the required level (B1 to C1 depending on the position) is achievable with targeted preparation. The format is heavily oriented towards institutional and administrative French — a specific register we can work on directly using authentic documents from the Belgian administration.

Note

These resources are selected on the basis of their recognised pedagogical quality within the FLE community. They are complementary — none of them replaces personalised support for working on the specific difficulties of your profile.
